Electroplating is actually a collective name for all galvanic processes. Galvanic processes are processes in which a metal layer is deposited on a metal surface by galvanic (electrolytic) way. Examples include electrolytic galvanizing, nickel plating or chrome plating. These are always aqueous solutions in which the metal to be deposited is dissolved. The electric current flowing through the product and liquid draws the dissolved metal particles towards the product surface. An electrochemical reaction then takes place on the product surface, whereby the dissolved metal becomes solid metal. This solid metal then forms a layer on the product surface.

Unfortunately, the term "galvanizing" is popularly used a lot for galvanizing. In view of the above, this is therefore incorrect. To make matters worse, the term is also used for both electrolytic and hot dip galvanizing. However, these are two completely different processes.
